Thank you, Kristen. I have the experience of layered memories often…it’s nostalgia but even deeper. Because of living in the same home for 16 years, and returning to my childhood home where my parents still love today. I really treasure the experience and find it fascinating too, and am curious how others experience it. It’s quite complex emotionally for me.
I would say I’ve experienced layer memories in both places and with things. Places: playgrounds, our elementary school, our house. Things: a passed-down bike that all my kids rode or the pumpkin sweatshirt they all wore for a season. ❤️
I loved Beyond the Bright Sea! What a great teacher gift! And tomorrow is my daughter's birthday, too. I always judge the timing of things in the garden by her birthday--as in, "The climbing rose is late this year because it's usually blooming by Cate's birthday." Anyway, happy birthday to Maeve!
Ooh, I'll look out for that when it releases! BTW, someone just highly recommended Ferris, by Kate DiCamillo, and I picked it up today. It's middle grade and really sweet!
Oh I must have known that about Cate’s birthday but I forgot - how lovely! And I do the same - our palo verde tree is always just starting to bloom in time for my April birthdays. Love that.💛 Happy birthday, Cate!
Love the phrase “layered memories”

PS Just read an advance copy of Lauren Wolk’s newest, Candle Island, and it was a delight.
